work on things that

HackKC is a 2-day hackathon where we design and create solutions that solve community problems. Projects aim to address real problems in our community, such as urban blight, information access, locating community resources, environmental issues, transportation problems, and many more using open source coding networks.

Join volunteer designers, developers, doers and thinkers with a passion for making local civic organizations work better through technology.

Projects continue after the hackathon until complete. Hosted by Code for KC, a KC Digital Drive program.

Post Hack KC - Finish

Monday Nights

Hack KC is more than a weekend hack event. Projects continue until they are complete at Monday night HackNights.

Throughout the year, we are on the lookout throughout across our KC Digital Drive community partners looking for compelling project opportunities, and Code for KC is the primary avenue for bringing civic tech projects with a software development angle to life.

We look for projects that may take 60-80 hours of time over the course of 6-12 months and deliver meaningful impact in the community, largely through our weekly hack nights. But these projects take all sorts of shapes, from Made in KC and localstart.org, which launched at our first event in 2013, to Community KC, to I Got Mine.

Check out current projects in development or submit your own below.

What is the Kansas City Code Brigade?

The Kansas City Code Brigade is a non profit group who utilizes modern technology to solve civic problems. We want to address real problems in our community, such as environmental issues, transportation problems, and many more using open source coding networks.

Our projects are created around the idea that there are real issues in our community that can have a technological solution. Through collaboration and networking we create a community-based solution and follow through with a team of coders, designers, writers (and more!) to implement that solution.
